From: To: ; ; ; ; Subject: Moorings Bay Citizens Advisory Committee Date: Tuesday, October 17, 2006 11:38 AM The following items were discussed at the October 17th, 2006 meeting of the MBCAC. 1. Doctors Pass Light. The light is functioning properly and a rule tide gauge has been mounted. According to an article published in the Naples Sun Times, the steel "H" piling supporting the light is 48 feet long. 2. Save the Bays. It was recognized that Save the Bays is the recent recipient of the THE GULF GUARDIAN AWARD from the Environmental Protection Agency. The award will be presented to Save the Bays in New Orleans on December 13th. Sometime in November the EPA will send a video crew to Naples to document Save the Bays activities. 3. Doctors Pass Monitoring. It was discussed if methods are available (similar to Collier County) that would make it more efficient when paying for and securing engineering services for the city. Such services include the Doctors Pass monitoring as well as the many other marine related engineering services the city must contract for. 4. Moorings Bay Survey. It was announced that Bill Lazier has agreed to do a second depth survey of the entire Moorings Bay system. Bill's last survey was completed in 1999 and it will be interesting to note any changes in past 7 years. 5. A brief discussion was undertaken on rip-rap and seawalls. Rip-rap has been receiving considerable attention recently and the city is looking at ways to encourage the use of rip-rap in lieu of new seawalls or an addition to existing seawalls. Doug Finlay
